Regulation Research
Our business is really regulatory compliance. To keep current we maintain subscriptions to the EPA, OSHA, the DOT, and the Indiana Administrative Code. We also keep current on news from OSHA, EPA, Michigan OSHA, Indiana OSHA, Indiana Bureau of Safety Education and Training websites. This includes the Federal Register, especially the semi-annual federal Unified Agenda for both OSHA and EPA. Through the Internet we have additional access to the environmental and occupational health and safety regulations from every state in the Union.
Besides these we maintain a library of the documentation behind the occupational exposure limits established by OSHA and the ACGIH so that we can interpret and comment on their proper application for you. Many times we are asked for opinions on adapting occupational limits to safe exposure for children or for non-occupational settings, and having this type of background information is essential. In the absence of published values from the usual sources listed above, we can provide recommendations based on other published toxicology literature, so that you can have the answers you need to your tough questions about exposure and risk.
It really is of little use to measure exposure levels, whether in the work place or in the general environment, without having a known safe concentration for evaluating the results. Interpreting results is the most difficult part of the job, where professional experience and regulatory knowledge really count. Before you engage a consultant make sure he can interpret your results.
