Building Demolition
The creation of a framework for hazardous materials and restrictions on their land disposal over the past three decades has had a large impact on how buildings are demolished. Where once we needed to worry only about dust control, now we need to know whats in the dust or rather prove what is not in the dust, so to speak.
Demolition of older buildings, especially industrial buildings requires a multi-disciplinary effort to deal with asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint, abandoned drums, mercury-containing fluorescent light bulbs, PCB-containing fluorescent light ballasts and electrical equipment, underground storage tanks, abandoned process equipment and old chemical spills. Often heating oil leaks under the building are first discovered when the foundation is removed.
